“To the people clinging to the notion that female-led pictures are a niche genre, people see them! They make money! The world is round, people!” - Cate Blanchett
[walks around with an entire big mac in my mouth but never actually biting down] It’s a metaphor, see: you put the killing thing right between your teeth, but you don’t give it the power to do its killing.
This is the correct face to make when being told you’re a heinous bitch.
Why did Stiles stab himself with a dagger?
I personally had the thought that the Nogitsune is trying to kill Stiles in order to have full control over his body, so that there’s nothing left to fight back against him. Then again, there’s a part that doesn’t make sense in that theory. If the Nogitsune doesn’t mind Stiles being dead, why did he try to keep him alive when Stiles was freezing to death in the basement/car hallucination? He kept saying he was trying to save Stiles’ life…why? Does he actually need Stiles to be alive at some level for the possession to work, or was he just trying to gain entry to his mind by tricking Stiles into trusting him?
Or is he stabbing Stiles to ensure that Stiles can’t kick him out, because the Nogitsune is now keeping his body alive, and if he leaves then Stiles will almost surely die?
I also agree with you—I think this is the perfect point for the Nogitsune to take control of the Oni, especially if he is indeed stabbing Stiles with Mama Yukimura’s tail. Maybe he also shatters the blade inside Stiles, or coats it with his blood, and therefore absorbs the power and control of the Oni?
Hrm, that’s a solid question: can the nogitsune work with a dead body or does it have to be alive in some fashion?
We thought we saw the nogitsune reanimate a corpse with Rhys…but then we hear Rhys say “coup de foudre” to Noshiko after the fly leaves his mouth. So…
- If the nogitsune reanimated a corpse then how did Rhys utter his last lines?
- If the nogitsune requires a living body then did Merrick and Hayes dump him in the field knowing he was alive?
I feel like Rhys had to been still alive, if only barely; there was a lot of focus on Noshiko talking about how she was barely clinging on to life but was mistaken for dead, and she called for the spirit to possess her, which definitely makes me think the Nogitsune needs a living vessel, no matter how broken. I definitely agree with stilinskiese about the Nogitsune keeping the body alive beyond its normal injuries; we see as soon as the Nogitsune is excised from Rhys, he musters up whatever strength he has lingering from the possession, gives his last words to Noshiko, and then dies immediately from his injuries.
And yeah, I can see Merrick and Hayes dumping a nearly dead Rhys into the body pit as part of the cover-up.
Also the lighting in the second gif when Stiles’ body is arching back after the stabbing, it’s really interesting; it’s almost like a classic “attained power, leveling up!” pose, which definitely supports the “absorb the power of the Oni” hypothesis.
